A Holistic Approach to Fertility
Acupuncture is a safe, effective natural therapy that can help improve fertility while also addressing common issues such as pain, stress and anxiety. The “whole-body approach” can be very effective for fertility issues – especially as more than one factor may be involved. A balanced combination of natural therapies can help you feel your best and get you on your way to a healthy, happy pregnancy. We can help address a number of issues that may be affecting fertility including:
- Unexplained infertility
- Irregular cycles
- Poor Ovarian Reserve
- Recurrent Miscarriage
- Thin Endometrial lining
- High FSH
- Advanced Maternal age
How does Acupuncture help Fertility?
Optimizing fertility involves working on your health at the level of the whole person. Acupuncture treatments are relaxing, restful times for your entire body to regenerate, but with focus on the main “root issue” that may be affecting fertility. In addition to Reproductive Health, Chinese Medicine also takes into account your overall wellbeing – including Menstruation, Digestion, Sleep, Emotional Health and more.
Boosts circulation to Reproductive System
- Acupuncture points are chosen for their ability to increase healthy flow of blood and energy to the uterus and ovaries.
Harmonizes cycles in the body
- By helping to regulate the endocrine communication in the body, hormonal and menstrual systems return to a healthier balance.
Improves Ovarian health
- Acupuncture treatments can help boost overall health but in particular can improve ovarian function, yielding higher quality eggs.
Improves Uterine health
- Acupuncture can also help increase the thickness of the uterine lining, benefitting a healthy implantation.
Helps reduce the effects of Stress
- Stress is now being linked as a contributing factor in many cases of subfertility.
- Studies have shown that Acupuncture can naturally help increase the release of endorphins – our “happy hormones”, while also helping reduce the over-production of cortisol – our “stress hormone”. Acupuncture treatments are relaxing, restful times for your body and mind to regenerate

Traditional vs. Conventional Approach
A key factor in Traditional Medicine is finding and treating the root cause of any health challenge. We look for the source of the disharmony as well as addressing the imbalances it is causing. This is a different idea than what we are used to in modern, western medicine. With long standing health concerns natural medicine can sometimes take a little longer, but often results in healing at a much deeper level.
That said, there is no issue with combining Traditional Medicine with your doctor’s care. In fact, it is often best to treat complex fertility issues with a combined approach of the two. Our natural therapies are gentle and will not overwhelm you or interfere with any medications or your doctor’s care.

Each fertility situation is unique, but we usually suggest a minimum of 1 to 3 months of acupuncture treatment in many cases, although some patients will benefit from longer treatment plans.

Our acupuncture protocols include minimal needling with gentle technique. Most clients do not feel any discomfort and find the treatments extremely relaxing and effective.
I'm already working with a Fertility Clinic - can you still help?
Yes, our therapies work to support you at any stage of conventioanl fertility treatment. Whether you are just starting to work with your doctor, or are doing a medicated cycle, IUI or IVF.
Can I still take my medication?
Yes, any of our treatment modalities are meant to support you safely, including any prescription medication you are taking. If you are working with a fertility clinic, our treatments help support any of the medication and therapies that may be part of your plan.
Where do the needles go?
Acupuncture needles may be applied at various points on the body – it depends on the overall goal of each treatment. There may be needles placed in various areas of the body, including hands and feet, face, head (including ears), back or torso – but we aim to keep the number to a minimum.
Is Acupuncture covered by my insurance?
At this time Acupuncture by a Registered Acupuncturist is not covered by OHIP, but is covered by many private health care plans. We offer a direct billing option to your insurance but also provide a receipt so that you can make a claim yourself. In Ontario, treatments by an R.Ac can also be claimed as a medical expense on your income tax.
Check with your provider to see if Acupuncture by a Registered Acupuncturist (R.Ac) is covered in your extended health care plan. If it is not and you would like it to be – inquire with your employer about having it added. Most plans are based on consumer demand, so if more consumers as for coverage this can make a difference as to what will be included in benefit packages.
