Cosmetic Acupuncture

Acupuncture works naturally, to promote radiant, glowing beauty without any harsh side effects. Unlike chemical skin peels, Botox or other injections, Facial Rejuvenation with acupuncture is much more than “just a cosmetic treatment”.  Acupuncture always treats the whole person, and boosting beauty energy from within.

What can cosmetic acupuncture help with?

How does Cosmetic Acupuncture work?

Facial acupuncture works on the level of the skin’s health as well as addressing the overall health and wellbeing of mind and body. Each visit includes both face and body acupuncture. In addition to the person’s face, we are also addressing overall physical and emotional health. Quality of sleep, digestion and stress management can influence skin tone, texture and even early signs of age.

Collagen Production

Collagen is what gives skin its strength and elasticity in youth.  Needles help stimulate the body’s own production of collagen and increase the apperance of skin’s vitality.

Although collagen production naturally diminishes as we age, it is possible to slow down the process with facial acupuncture.

Boost Circulation of Blood and Energy

Acupuncture points are chosen for their ability to increase healthy flow of blood and energy to the face, neck and scalp.

Body acupuncture works on the same premise: points corresponding to the circulatory system balance the whole body treatment.

Overall Skin Health

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the skin and face reveal the secrets of internal health.  Unlike superficial quick fixes, each treatment also works internally to optimize your whole health.

This may mean better sleep, improved digestion or a more relaxed facial experession as you feel stress slip away.

Detox and Sculpt

Acupuncture provides a gentle detox effect, aiding the body’s natural processes.  Facial gua sha, facial cupping and Qi Beauty™ further help the process along with gentle toning and sculpting effects on the face and neck.

Acupuncture + Non-Needle Facial Therapies

We offer a number of modalities in our facial rejuvenation treatments.  These all work beautifully alongside facial acupuncture, or can be a completely needle-free treatment on their own!

Facial cupping

Small glass or silicone cups gently glide over the skin, moving waste fluid towards the body’s lympathic system.  Decrease the appearance of puffy skin and bring a fresh glow to the face.

Facial Gua Sha

Facial Gua sha

Traditional gemstone to gently clear congestion, cool skin and aid blood and fluid circulation.

Acupressure

Gentle pressure massage on points and channels on the face, scalp and ears – helps activate fresh energy and blood flow to the muscles and dermis.

Essential Oils

Customized botanical oils may be added to address individual skin issues such as dryness, acne, fine lines or decreased skin vitality.

What to Expect

Acupuncture works on a gradual basis, and each session is meant to build on the results of the previous one. Typically a series of 10 treatments over 5 weeks will bring optimum results (this may vary depending on the individual).  Recommendations for lifestyle and home care protocols are often included.

Qi Beauty™ Facial

Qi Beauty™ is a unique facial treatment developed in Australia.  Based on concepts in Traditional Chinese Medicine, it utilizes the power of gauss specific 24ct gold magnets placed in a customized matrix on the face. Barbara is one of the few certified Qi Beauty Practitioners in Ontario to offer this needle-less technique as a stand alone treatment option. Combined with body acupuncture it is a powerful treatment that leaves your face noticeably revitalized.

Is this Right for You?

Meet with us to learn more about what we offer and how we can help you.  Our complimentary discovery session is the easy first step to deciding if this is the right approach for you.

How fast can you see results?

Subtle results are usually noticeable after one treatment, but become long lasting after 10 or more sessions.  Results will vary from person to person and will also depend on lifestyle factors (ie. water intake, sleep habits, etc.)

Is facial acupuncture like Botox?

Facial acupuncture is not the same concept as Botox or other fillers.  How is it better?

It works in a completely way: it is much more than a superficial treatment and works with the energy of the body.  Unlike Botox, you will not get a “frozen” appearance, or be unable to move areas of the face.

Botox cannot treat sun damage, acne or improve the texture of skin – acupuncture can help with all of these issues.  Cosmetic acupuncture treats the face AND the whole person, taking into account physical pain, emotions and stress – if you are feeling better your face will also reflect that.

How many treatments will I need to have?

Each person’s situation is different, but with Cosmetic Acupuncture it is usually recommended to have between 10-12 visits over 5-6 weeks in order to see lasting results.

After your initial series of sessions, we recommend a monthly “maintenance” treatment to prolong the effect longterm.  Results can vary depending on many factors including health, age, lifestyle and the condition of your skin.

How long do results last?

A standard series of (minimum) 10 treatments will generally get results that last 1 year or more, with regular maintenance “tune ups”.  We also suggest home care protocols that can help you maintain and extend the results even further.

Does facial acupuncture hurt?

Our protocol involves minimal facial needling, with gentle techniques.  Most clients do not feel any discomfort, and it is definitely not the same as getting cosmetic injections or chemical peels.  For those who prefer to avoid needles completely, we offer a complete facial rejuvenation treatment that is needle-free.

Can I still get facial acupuncture if I bruise easily?

In certain cases it is not recommended due to certain health issues, however we can also work with you to prevent possible bruising. Please book a complimentary 15 minute consult to go over your specific case.

Are there any side effects?

As with any acupuncture, there is always a slight chance of temporary bruising right after the treatment.  For this reason we do not recommend Facial Acupuncture right before an important event, and can offer non-needle options if you prefer.

Who should avoid this treatment?

Although Facial Acupuncture can be of great benefit to individuals at any age, there are some instances where it is not recommended.

Please inform your practitioner if any of the following applies to you, and we will suggest alternatives:

  • vertigo
  • high blood pressure (unmedicated)
  • bleeding disorder such as hemophilia
  • on blood thinner medication
  • acute herpes outbreak on the face
  • cold, flu or sinus infection
  • chronic migraines or headaches on regular basis
  • have had Botox or other injectibles in past 4 months
  • skin resurfacing in the past 4 weeks
  • cosmetic surgery in past 6 months

It is also not recommended in the following scenarios:

  • You are trying to conceive and having possible fertility issues.  Although acupuncture can certainly be helpful here as a support for fertility.
  • You are currently a regular smoker. Due to the effects of smoke on the skin – you will not see the results you are looking for. If/when you are ready to quit acupuncture can support you with this.
  • It is not recommended during pregnancy.  Acupuncture for health care is very safe during pregnancy, but we don’t recommend a series of intensive facial acupuncture treatments during this time.
